DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/12 Nov) — “Towards Multi-Ethnic Archiving in the Postmodern Era” is this year’s theme for the National Archives Congress which will be held at the Ateneo de Davao University on November 17 and 18.
The theme “acknowledges the need to shed light on the nature and characteristics of multi-ethnic archiving in the Philippines as well as the challenges attendant to such a project in these postmodern times,” said Dr. Leah Vidal, chair of the ADDU’s Department of Anthropology and chair of this year’s Archives Congress.
Organized by the ADDU in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Congress aims to answer these questions: “how have museum curators, educators, anthropologists and other cultural researchers accessed ethnic documents in decades past? How do we gauge the significance of these ethnic documents?”
Prof. Victorino M. Manalo of the National Archives of the Philippines, Christine M. Abrigo of De La Salle University, Prof. Regalado Jose of the University of Santo Tomas, and Fr. Albert Alejo of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University will be speaking before an audience of archivists, cultural researchers, educators and museum workers.
This is the third National Archives Congress. Last year’s Congress was held at the Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod.
Vidal said they are inviting “schools, colleges, and universities as well as other organizations who work with historical and ethnic documents to come to the Congress not only to learn but also to help shape the face of multi-ethnic archiving in our country.”
