Surigao chamber to host Caraga bizcon on June 13-14

SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews/02 June) — The Surigao Chamber of Commerce and Industries Inc., (SCCI) will host the 18th Caraga Business Conference on June 13-14, at the Hotel Tavern here.

SCCI president Willie Gan told MindaNews the conference is designed to update not just business executives but also professionals, academics, government executives, investors and decision-makers on current issues as well as impending opportunities affecting business in Caraga region.

The theme for this year’s Caraga regional conference is “Towards Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth.”

Topics scheduled for discussion include current economic situation, coping up with the effects of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) economic integration, weather proofing investments for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation, investing in mineral processing in Surigao, public investments in Caraga Tourism Roads, among others will be discussed on this two-day event.

Gan said the conference will assess Caraga’s readiness with regard the integration wherein products of Vietnam and Thailand are expected to penetrate the local market and vice versa.

He said there is a need for assessment so that the business community will be ready once economic integration takes effect in 2015.

By 2015, ASEAN will integrate the economies of its ten-member states into a single ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla will be the keynote speaker at the conference. (Roel N. Catoto/MindaNews)
