Mayor tagged in drug delivery not from North Cotabato

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte told Piñol that the report was published in the Mindanao Daily Mirror.

The report, citing Duterte, said the mayor allegedly delivered 3.5 kilos of shabu “from Cotabato to Davao” using an ambulance.

“The mayor referred to was from Maguindanao and not North Cotabato,” Piñol pointed out.

The governor stressed that the provincial government has always stood firm against illegal drugs and that the mayors of the province are one with him in this campaign.

“It has been our policy and it continues to be our policy, to fight drugs and to go after those involved in the illegal drug trade here in my province,” he said.

“We cannot allow any of our officials to be involved with [sic] illegal drugs in any way. Neither will we allow the use of our ambulances, or any government vehicle for that matter in any illegal activity especially drug trafficking,” he added.

The governor has built an image of being a strong campaigner against illegal drugs. He has joined several marijuana uprooting operations by the police and military in the hinterlands of the province early in his administration as governor.

He also spearheaded the filing of complaints against elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in North Cotabato for their questionable handling of a drug case in the town of Pikit three years ago. (Williamor A. Magbanua/MindaNews)
