The construction of the 250-meter long bridge, under a grant from Spain, would link the heavily-congested J.R. Borja Street in the city proper and the densely-populated barangay Carmen, according to a press statement from the city information office.
Mayor Constantino “Tinnex” Jaraula said the Department of Public Works and Highways is readying the final stage of the project’s technical plan. Construction is targetted to start either in March of April next year.
DPWH regional director Sinaolan Macarambon, along with her technical staff, met the mayor today to further review and study the development plan of the proposed bridge project.
Jaraula urged Macarambon to consider the height of the J.R. Borja Bridge as it might affect the city’s plan to boost tourism activities along the banks of the Cagayan de Oro River. The plan involves the construction of a walking bridge with a café station, a river boulevard, a high-rise fountain in the middle of the river, a multi-level rotunda building that would house a mini-library and museum.
The mayor and the DPWH officials are set to meet again next week. (MindaNews)
