Garcia told authorities two armed men riding on a motorcycle fired their guns at them while they were walking along Osmena Drive, a commercial district here, at around 3:10 a.m., today. One of their companions, whom Garcia refused to identify, escaped unhurt. A relative of Penafranda told radio station dxND that the killing may have been due to a “love triangle”. Residents of Nursery Phase 2 tipped the police, however, that the victims were known to be notorious thieves and were involved in illegal drugs. The Friday dawn shooting was the 13th incident since October 2008. Penafranda and Julio were the 15th and 16th victims.
Of the 16 victims, 12 were shot dead while four sustained injuries.
Some of the cases were drug-related while others were due to personal grudges, reports said. (Malu Cadelina Manar / MindaNews)
