The ghosts of registrations past are back in the five-province, two-city Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), threatening the bedrock of its reform agenda and the very reason why the voters’ list in the region was annulled in the first place: girls and boys made to pretend they are 18 years old and above, hakot (hauling) of “flying” or multiple registrants in exchange for cash, and clustering of barangays that allegedly raises protests from rival politicians.

MARAWI CITY (MindaNews/09 July) -- Flying registrants, the clustering of registration centers, and minors trying to register plagued the first day of the re-registration of voters in Lanao del Sur, an election official said today. Commission on Elections Commissioner Armando Velasco chanced upon a minor, a girl lining up to register at a registration center in Barangay Lower Dansalan, Marawi City on Monday, the first day of registration.

In Lanao del Sur, generators deployed for voters’ registration

MARAWI CITY (MindaNews/08July) -- Election officer Tommy Macadingdang sat on the boxes containing generating sets at the motor pool of the Lanao del Sur provincial capitol Sunday, waiting for transportation. It has been hours since he started waiting but Macadingdang was not worried. He was optimistic that transportation will arrive in time for the generators to be delivered to Molundo town in Lanao del Sur.4
