CAGAYAN DE ORO  (MindaNews/26 August) -- President Gloria Arroyo’s 20,000-dollar dinner in Le Cirque, New York reminds me of an encounter with a disturbed woman years ago.

My friend Ann Gorra and I had just sent off her mother to Cagayan de Oro Airport, from where she would board a plane to Manila and then to Switzerland. On our way back to the city, and after passing by the plush Pryce Hotel, we saw a barefooted scrawny woman ahead of us, running down the road as if avoiding an argument with a pack of demons.

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (MindaNews/09 April) -- Picture this: An association of Manila businessmen decide that a mosque in Marawi City is not a house of prayer because it doesn’t contain a picture of prophet Muhammad. Then, they destroy the mosque and start quarrying there.

This hypothetical scenario would certainly be seen as radical and offensive by the educated community. But a similar event is taking place.

CAGAYAN DE ORO C ITY (MindaNews/17 Feb) -- A “pirated” copy of an article from the Archaeological Studies Program (ASP) was recently handed to me courtesy of Michael Baños, who received it from Nanette Roa of the Historical and Cultural Commission (HISCCOM). Pirated because it’s incomplete. Some pages are missing, and the date of publication is unknown.
