DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/19 October) – Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario is still the richest governor in Mindanao while Oroquieta City Mayor Jorge Almonte is the richest city mayor as of yearend 2007, according to their Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN). Del Rosario’s net worth as of yearend 2007 was P408.94 million. In 2003, his net worth was P302.44 million, up from P302.02 million as of yearend 2002. Del Rosario did not run for a third term in 2004. He fielded in his stead, Tagum City mayor Gelacio Gementiza who ranked fifth richest among the 22 city mayors who filed their SALN for 2003.Del Rosario ran again for governor in 2007. The second richest governor in Mindanao is Bukidnon’s Jose Ma. Zubiri who declared a net worth of P103.42 million, followed by Zamboanga Sibugay’s George Hofer who declared a net worth of P100.63 as of yearend 2007. Between yearend 2003 and 2007, Del Rosario grew richer by P106.50 million, Zubiri by P79.42 million and Hofer by P25.43 million. Oroquieta City Mayor Jorge Almonte, the richest city mayor as of yearend 2008, declared a net worth of P54.71 million, followed by Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat who posted a P52.26 million net worth followed by Tagum City Rey Uy whose net worth was P32.57 million. But as of yearend 2007, it was Uy who was richest, with P66.93 million as net worth, followed by Lobregat with P49.64 million and Almonte with P40.15 million. Among Mindanao’s 26 governors, six governors have no records of SALN filed with the Ombudsman in Mindanao: Davao Oriental’s Corazon Malanyaon; Basilan’s Jum Jainuddin Akbar; Lanao del Norte’s Khalid Dimaporo; Lanao del Sur’s Mamintal Adiong, Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan and Tawi-tawi Governor Sadikul Sahali. Except for Lanao del Norte and Davao Oriental, the four other provinces are members of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan resigned in late 2008 when the Supreme Court ruled with finality that the creation of Shariff Kabunsuan province, earlier carved out of Maguindanao, was unconstitutional. The Ampatuan patriarch was completing his third term when he resigned, citing he had no mandate from the constituents of Shariff Kabunsuan. Ampatuan’s net worth as of yearend 2007 was P18.50 million, up from P11.74 million as of yearend 2003. Assuming his post as governor was former vice governor Datu Sajid Islam Uy Ampatuan, another son whose net worth as of yearend 2006 was 18.91 million.
