| “Soldiers for Peace” book launched in peace forum |

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/18 July) -- “Soldiers for Peace: A Collection of Peacebuilding Stories in Mindanao” will be launched at the Finster Hall of the Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) on Friday, February 19. The book features 21 stories of soldiers who applied in their areas of operations the lessons they learned in Operation Peace Course (OP Kors!) as well as documented personal stories of transformation of soldiers from warriors to peace-builders and conflict managers.OP Kors!, a series of trainings on peacebuilding, was initiated by BMFI Executive Director Ariel C. Hernandez and EastMinCom commander Lt. Gen. Raymundo B. Ferrer, who were classmates at the Asian Institute of Management’s Bridging Leadership Program. Hernandez was then the BMFI executive director while Ferrer was then the commander of the 6th Infantry Division. Hernandez is now on leave as BMFI executive director to attend to his responsibilities as congressman representing the Anak Mindanao (AMIN) party-list. Op Kors! is part of the peace education component of the Peace Building Program of BMFI.
The book launching from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. will be followed by the BMFI-organized Peace Policy Forum with Mindanao’s key military leaders together with the academe, civil society, church and government agencies. Tina Monzon-Palma of ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) will anchor the forum, which will tackle the question “Transforming Conflict and Building Peace in Mindanao Towards Security Sector Reform: An Option or a Policy?” To tackle issues on workable peace policies and peace interventions in the Armed Forces are Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzalez, Ferrer and Hernandez.
