City Mayor Rodolfo Gantuangco said the projects includeconstruction of new classrooms, industrial arts buildings, science laboratory buildings and school libraries for high school in the villages.

Among the beneficiary schools are those in the rural communities of Linangcob, Onica, Gayola, Sayaban, Ilomavis, Ginatilan, Manongol, Kalaisan, Paco and Amas. The other beneficiairy schools but in the poblacion area would be the Kidapawan City National High School, Spottswood National High School and Saniel Cruz National High School.

The projects are worth P50 million and Gantuangco said 25 percent of the funds would be taken from the special education funds and from the purse of the city government. The bulk, or 75 percent, of the funds, would come from the national government through the Department of Education (DepEd).

The mayor said that the city government was willing to shell out P20 million in counterpart fund.

The DepEd’s city division said the city would receive 29 school building projects funded by the Secondary School Development and Improvement Project (SEDIP). Gantuangco claimed that the city remained a leading beneficiary of the SEDIP projects among the other cities and towns in the country.

He said the new SEDIP projects would be part of the city government’s commitment “to give quality education among Christian, Muslim and the tribal youth of Kidapawan City."

“We are happy because SEDIP has chosen our city to receive such projects. This would surely help in the development of education especially in the far flung villages of our city,” he said.

He added that the projects would be his legacy to the youth in his city.

“I am very confident that through the help of SEDIP, quality education the youth deserves is already at hand,” he said.

The new projects can accommodate the increasing high school enrolees in various public high schools there. (Williamor A. Magbanua/MindaNews)
