ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/3 March) – The City Health Office of Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province, has declared a diarrhea outbreak following the sudden surge of cases since last week.
Dr. Rafael Cabug, city health officer, said that they recorded 213 cases in the span of a week until Thursday.
Cabug said his office has initially recorded minimal incidence of diarrhea since February 6 but surged in the last week.
No mortality, however, was recorded, according to Cabug.
He said that the patients are from the 24 of the 45 barangays of Isabela City.
He said they are conducting investigation to determine source of the diarrhea though they don’t discount the possibility the water source as the origin.
A recommendation has been forwarded to the City Council for the declaration of a state of calamity in Isabela City, Cabug said.
He advised the Isabeleños to boil their water for drinking for protection against diarrhea.
Cabug said his office has launched an advocacy aimed to minimized if not eradicate incidence of diarrhea in Isabela City. (MindaNews)
