ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/19 July) – The Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office is eyeing to hold another Festival de Comidas y Alegrias in this city, which it announced just right after concluding the first-ever two-night festival here.
The first Festival de Comidas y Alegrias was held last Friday and Saturday at the Plaza del Pilar located just beside the historic Our Lady of the Pillar Shrine. Hundreds came to feast on the variety of cuisines served by the seven participating hotels and restaurants.
The two-night occasion was a result of the partnership of the City Government of Zamboanga headed by Mayor Celso Lobregat and the DOT regional office led by its acting regional director, Mary June Bugante, with San Miguel Brewery as the sponsor.
Bugante said they are looking into the possibility of setting up activities of the same nature in the forthcoming feast of Our Lady of the Pillar in October.
The festival raked an estimated P39,000 as combined earnings from the total number of coupons sold by the seven participating establishments for the first evening alone.
For only P100, a customer got to enjoy a three-course meal, with cuisines varying from Spanish, American, Japanese and Chinese influences.
The second evening surpassed the first, with about P43,000 in earnings.
Each evening was filled with aficionados who were treated with live music from the New Soul Band and Project 20 band.
Ten lucky customers were also awarded with gift certificates from the participating establishments. (MindaNews)
