Police officer slightly injured in Cotabato City blast

COTABATO CITY (MindaNews/28 October) —  A police officer sustained a minor leg wound when an improvised bomb within a cordoned area along Sinsuat Avenue, exploded just as he was approaching it.

The city police received reports at about 9 a.m. that an improvised explosive device was planted along the national highway in Sinsuat Avenue.

A combined team of  police officers and Marines arrived at the area where the bomb was reported found, at around 9:30 a.m. and cordoned it off.

Shortly thereafter, a police officer and a Marine walked towards where the bomb was but before reaching it, the bomb exploded, injuring slightly the policeman’s left leg, eyewitness Emmanuel Pingkian, said.

According to the city police chief, Sr. Supt. Roberto Badian, they received reports Thursday night that a bomb was planted in front of a restaurant along Sinsuat Avenue.

“We learned from Casa Blanca last night that they received a bomb threat. We are now investigating this,” he said.  (Ferdinandh Cabrera/MindaNews)
