KABACAN, North Cotabato (MindaNews / 24 April) – At least 20 houses, including business establishments, along the national highway in Kabacan, North Cotabato, were razed by a two-hour fire that started around 7:30 p.m. Monday, a fire official said.
Senior Fire Inspector Ibrahim Guiamalon, chief of the Kabacan Fire Bureau, said the blaze originated at the back portion of Pinpin Enterprise, located along Aglipay Street, Poblacion in Kabacan.
The fire almost gutted a rural bank and other business establishments along the highway had it not been for the quick response of the town’s firefighting unit, including help from nearby fire stations, said Guiamalon.
However, some of the houses and establishments made of light materials located at the back portion of Pinpin Enterprise were easily engulfed by fire, authorities said.
The rotating blackouts, according to them, had given firefighters some difficulty in penetrating the areas. There was no power in the whole of Kabacan when the incident happened.
Fire officials are still clueless as to what caused the fire and the estimated damage to properties. But Guiamalon said no one was injured during the fire. (Malu Cadeliña Manar / MindaNews)
