SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews/29 June)–The chief of police of Surigao City and seven other policemen have been relieved from their posts.
Supt. Jonathan G. Trojello and his subordinates were relieved after five inmates bolted the city police’s detention cell at dawn on Wednesday.
The seven policemen were the ones on duty during the jailbreak.
One of the five escapees voluntarily surrendered to police an hour after the jailbreak. He was identified as Henry Lemosnero, a driver who is facing theft.
The four other escapees are still at large as of today. They were identifed as Junren Balonsio and Angelo Legada, who are facing theft charges; Albert Saavedra, who was charged with illegal possession of firearm; and Reneboy Amper, who is accused of robbery.
The said prisoners escaped by cutting off two 16 mm iron bars.
The relief order took effect yesterday morning as ordered by Caraga police director Chief Supt. Reynaldo Rafal through Senior Supt. Roel B. Obusan, the police provincial director of Surigao del Norte.
Trojello and the seven other policemen are now detailed at the Surigao Provincial Police Office.
He was replaced by an office-in-charge, Chief Inspector Apollo B. Abao.
Abao said he would give the names of the seven other policemen who are now under investigation. (Roel N. Catoto/MindaNews)
