MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/23 October) — Tropical depression “Ofel” continued to move westward threatening Eastern Mindanao and Eastern Visayas, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its advisory at noon Tuesday.
As of 10:00 today, “Ofel” was spotted 300 kilometers off Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, and carried maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center, the NDRRMC said.
If the weather disturbance continued moving at 15 kph, it will be 80 km west of Surigao City or over the Siargao-Dinagat area by Wednesday morning, and is expected to be over the Romblon-Aklan area by Thursday morning, it added.
Public Storm Signal No. 1 has been raised over Dinagat Island, Surigao and Agusan provinces, and Camiguin Island.
Estimated rainfall amount is 5-15 mm per hour within the 400-km diameter of the tropical depression and it may trigger flashfloods and landslides, the NDRRMC said. (MindaNews)
