Lawmen raid office of bogus anti-smuggling agency

ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/08 January) – Law enforcers today padlocked the office of a bogus anti-smuggling commission that claimed to be operating under the Office of the President.

The office of the “Presidential Anti-Smuggling Commission” (PASC) located at stall number 63, HMIJ Foundation Compound, Barangay Baliwasan, was padlocked after the raid by police, military and Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) operatives.

The raid was carried out on the strength of a search warrant dated January 7, 2013.

Senior Supt. Edwin de Ocampo, officer-in-charge of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), said that PASC is a non-existent and “illegitimate agency of the government.”

De Ocampo disclosed that none of the search warrant’s respondents was arrested since the office was empty when they arrived.

He identified the respondents as Hajdi Bangcula Tawasil Pang Koh, Col. (Ret.) Prudencio Enojo, Col. Karanain Ibrahim, Capt. Malik Unno, a certain Col. Kasim, a certain Col. Massilam, Rommel Salih and a certain Rogel.

But the police official said that Koh and Enojo along with two policemen, PO2 Sibre Ismael and PO2 Elbonn Appi, were arrested in an entrapment operation on Dec. 29, 2012 in Davao City.

De Ocampo said a certification issued by the Office of the President stated that the four suspects arrested in Davao City are not in any way connected with it and PAOCC.

“We would like to inform the general public that Presidential Anti-Smuggling Commission (PASC) is an illegitimate agency of the government,” he warned. (MindaNews)
