ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/12 January) – Five unidentified gunmen seized Friday night a businessman in this city, a police official said.
Senior Supt. Edwin de Ocampo, acting city police director, identified the victim as Edgar Fabella, 42, owner of a general merchandise store and an eatery in Barangay Maasin.
De Ocampo said Fabella was seized inside his eatery at around 7:30 p.m.
Investigation showed that two of the five gunmen, who pretended to buy cigarettes at the eatery, dragged the victim at gunpoint towards a motorized banca that had just arrived with three people aboard, the police official said.
Aided by one of the other three suspects, they forced the victim on the motorized banca and sped towards Basilan province, he said.
The two returned to their motorcycles and sped towards the northern direction of Barangay Maasin.
The incident took place barely two months after a public school teacher was kidnapped in Barangay Labuan, this city.
Flordeliza Ongchua, 48, was seized from her residence last November 13, and was released last December 24 in Jolo, Sulu. (MindaNews)
