KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/24 January)–A district school supervisor in Datu Montawal town in Maguindanao was unhurt when a fragmentation grenade exploded inside her residential compound at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, a rescue volunteer said.
Toto Abu, a volunteer for the 505 Disaster Rescue Emergencies Assistance and Management, identified the teacher as Delia Daniel.
Two of Daniel’s aides suffered minor injuries, he added
Daniel was inside a room when the explosion happened.
Abu said he was one of the volunteers who helped rush the blast victims to a nearby hospital in Kabacan, North Cotabato for treatment.
Citing police reports, Abu said Daniel’s attack could be related to her previous work in the past elections.
Abu said he was told that Daniel has been receiving death threats apparently in relation to her work as a member of the Board of Election Tellers in the 2007 and 2010 elections in Datu Montawal town.
“Police investigations showed that she has no known enemies at the DepEd (Department of Education) so authorities believed that the attack has something to do with the previous elections in Maguindanao,” said Abu.
Wednesday’s grenade attack came a week after feuding clans in Datu Montawal clashed anew in the poblacion area, again forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate.
The armed fighting was allegedly triggered by a political feud between two local politicians in Datu Montawal town. (Malu Cadelina Manar/MindaNews)
