ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanews/11 May) – Two persons were placed behind bars in Sergio town in Zamboanga del Norte after the police charged them for violation alleged vote-buying.
Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, chief of the Police Regional Office-9, said the respondents were caught as they engaged in vote buying.
Huesca identified the suspects as Jeruhan Mandao, 29, and Teresito Tumaroy, 49. They were arrested one after the other in Barangay Dampalan.
Huesca said Mandao was arrested at around 8:25 a.m. Friday and Tumaroy around 10 a.m. of the same day.
Mandao was caught red-handed giving to people he would meet along the street a folded campaign flyer of a candidate for councilor with a P50 bill inside, Huesca said.
Confiscated from Mandao were campaign flyers and P6,200 worth of P50 bills, he said.
In the case of Tumaroy, he was also caught red-handed giving campaign flyers of a candidate for councilor, stapled with P20.
Seized from his possession were campaign flyers and P4,000 worth of P20 bills, he said.
Both were detained and charged for violation of the Omnibus Election Code before the provincial prosecutor’s office, he added. (MindaNews)
