SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews / 26 Sept) – The Chamber of Mines of Caraga Region, Inc., (CMCRI) will hold the 2nd Mining Symposium and Safety Competition at the Grand Convention Center of Philippine Gateway Hotel here starting Friday (Sept. 27)
Dulmar M. Raagas, CMCRI president, said the two day-event intends to promote public awareness on the social, cultural, environmental and economic contributions of the mining industry in the country, particularly in the Caraga Region.
He said safety competition is also a major highlight of the affair to promote public awareness on the great importance of safety at work.
With the theme “Responsible Mining in Caraga Towards a Prosperous Community,” Raagas said the event will be participated by various local government units, academe, non-government organizations, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, and the mining companies operating within the region.
“This event presents yet another opportunity for us to share the work we are doing in a global scale striving to achieve a sustainable development in the mining communities,” he said.
Various activities such as fire drill, rescue and transfer relay and several topics related to responsible mining will be discussed during the event.
Caraga Region, particularly Surigao del Norte, has been known as the mining hub in the country due to the presence of large-scale mining companies.
