Councilman, trader charged for slay of Coast Guard personnel

ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews /12 Jan) – The police have filed a criminal case before the City Prosecutor’s Office against a barangay official and a businessman tagged as responsible in the January 5 killing of a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel in this city.

Chief Insp. Felixberto Martinez, Police Station 6 commander, identified those charged for murder as Hadji Jinnul Malik, a councilman of Barangay Rio Hondo, and businessman Hadji Radzmer Omar.

Martinez said the case against the suspects, both of whom are still at large, was filed Thursday.

He said the identities of the two suspects were established in the conduct of thorough investigation on the shooting incident that resulted to the death of SN1 (Seaman First Class) Abdurasid Iskan and the wounding of his six-year-old daughter Shara.

The suspects were positively identified by witnesses, Martinez disclosed.

Iskan and his daughter had just disembarked from a family-owned vehicle when shot by a lone gunman around 7:15 p.m. last January 5 at Don Toribio Street, Barangay Tetuan, this city.

The suspect then walked towards the junction of Don Toribio and Veterans Avenue where his cohort was waiting aboard a motorcycle and escaped.

Iskan expired at the hospital several minutes later while his daughter was admitted for treatment.

Iskan was assigned with the coast guard K9 unit based in Isabela City, Basilan province.

The family of Iskan is temporarily staying at Barangay Tetuan since their house in Barangay Rio Hondo was among those razed to the ground during the September standoff.
