City gov’t approves rehab plan for Zambo evacuees

ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/19 March) – The city government has approved the rehabilitation plan for areas damaged during the standoff last year between government forces and members of the Moro National Liberation Front.

City Planning and Development Coordinator Rodrigo Sicat said the approved plan is for the construction of 520 houses on stilts in Barangay Mariki and 219 “loftable” duplex-type houses in Barangay Sta. Catalina.

Sicat said the houses included in the first phase of the rehabilitation are among the 4,587 housing units for displaced families displaced that will be built by the National Housing Authority (NHA).

He said 3,241 of the 4,587 housing units will be concrete houses on stilts while the 2,346 will be built on land.

Of the 2,346 on-land housing units, Sicat said 1,189 will be a one-storey and 1,157 two-storey housing units.

He said the construction will start either anytime this month or in April and is set to be completed by June of next year.

“Hopefully we can shorten the time for the construction of the housing units,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the NHA and the city government are set to sign a memorandum of agreement for the release of P49.83 million for the Housing Assistance Material Program.

Under the program, he said P30,000 worth of housing materials will be given to each of the families that preferred to construct their own houses.

He said 1,661 families have qualified in the program. (MindaNews)
