P4-M smuggled rice seized in Zambo City

ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/25 March) – Police intercepted Monday smuggled rice estimated to be worth P4 million at a wharf in the city, an official disclosed Tuesday.

Chief Insp. Ariel Huesca, Zamboanga City Public Safety Company commander, said the rice shipment was intercepted while being unloaded from a wooden-hulled boat, M/L Princess Sibutu, around 3 a.m. Monday at a private wharf in Barangay Baliwasan.

Huesca said the rice shipment that came from Tawi-Tawi and placed in 4,000 bags of 25 kilos each is owned by Alnezer Usman.

Usman failed to present pertinent documents of the rice shipment, the police official said.

He said Jul-Arab Akan, a resident of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, who owns M/L Princess Sibutu also failed to present a cargo manifest.

He said the confiscated shipment of rice was turned over to Police Station 11 and later to the Bureau of Customs. (MindaNews)
