GenSan cops use trikes in anti-crime drive

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews/12 May) — The city police has started deploying police patrol tricycles in various parts of the city in a bid to enhance its crime prevention and security operations.

Senior Supt. Froilan Quidilla, city police director, said they recently received an initial two units of police patrol tricycles that were donated by LYR Marketing Corporation, a company that recently expanded its operations in the city.

He said the patrol tricycles will mainly augment their security patrols and other related operations within the city’s 26 barangays.

“This is a big boost to our crime prevention and security operations, which are focused on making the city more investor and business-friendly,” Quidilla said.

The police patrol tricycles, which cost around P100,000 each, is equipped with complete patrol and other basic accessories.

The Police Regional Office (PRO) 12 earlier pushed for the deployment of police patrol tricycles to improve the operations of police stations and offices within the region.

A study conducted by PRO-12 cited that the rollout of “fuel-efficient and road-tested” motorized tricycles as the region’s main security and patrol vehicle will enhance the mobility of police personnel during operations.

It initially identified the city as pilot area for the deployment of the police patrol tricycles through a prototype that it designed.

Frederick Rubio, LYR Marketing’s vice president, said in a statement that the two patrol tricycles were part of the assistance that they committed to the city police office to help improve its operations.

“We are positive that these motorcycles would help the city police in their operations, especially on patrolling during night time when petty crimes usually occur,” he said.

Rubio said that as newly-established company in the city, they want their operations to run smoothly and without safety threats.

“That could happen only if we will work together with the GSCPO (General Santos City Police Office) and the local government unit of General Santos City,” he added. (MindaNews)
