ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanews/04 July) – A total of 9,000 hectares in Region 9 have remained undistributed after the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Reforms (CARPER) Law expired on June 30, an official said.
But the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) regional office said it will still continue with its land acquisition and distribution program.
DAR Regional Director Julita Ragandang said Friday that under Section 30 of the CARPER Law all pending land acquisition and distribution activities may proceed after June 30.
Ragandang said the 9,000 hectares of land for distribution are located in the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur.
She was optimistic they can complete the distribution of the land by 2015 to the identified 6,000 agrarian reform beneficiaries in the three provinces.
She explained the Land Bank of the Philippines will pay the owners of lands acquired through the program and the beneficiaries will amortize the land in 30 years. (MindaNews)
