DOT-12 pushes 7 tour packages

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews / 29 July) – The Department of Tourism in Region (DOT) 12 has adopted an initial seven tour packages to anchor the region’s enhanced tourism promotion and marketing initiatives.

Nelly Nita Dillera, DOT-12 regional director, said the seven tour packages comprise key tourism attractions and destinations in the region that are covered by the agency’s “12th Paradise” tourism campaign.

The official said the tour packages features half-day to full-day tours as well as two to three-day immersion visits to various ecotourism and cultural destinations within the region.

For this city, she said they have prepared a half-day tour that will bring visitors to the city fishport complex; the Sarangani Highlands Garden and Restaurant or the Mt. Sabrina Mountain View Resort; world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao’s stadium, mansion and hotel; the Gen. Paulino Santos Museum; and the GenSan Pasalubong Center.

Dillera said another day-long tour option would bring visitors to top destinations within the city as well as in Lake Sebu town in South Cotabato for a zipline adventure, hike at the scenic Seven Falls Eco-Tourism Park and a 30-minute boat ride at the 354-hectare Lake Sebu.

The package includes a taste of the town’s famed Tilapia dishes aboard a floating restaurant and an experience of the rich culture of the area’s T’boli tribe through its museum and souvenir shops, she said.

Dillera said another package will bring tourists for a day-long adventure in this city and then to Maitum town in Sarangani for the water tubing experience at the Pangi River and its “pawikan” sanctuary.

The tour includes a brief stop at the “Faces of Maitum” Museum, which hosts centuries-old human-shaped burial jars and potteries, and the Lemlunay Dive Resort in Maasim town, she said.

The official said visitors may opt for an ecotourism and cultural immersion tour lasting two days in South Cotabato that will include stops to the Dole Philippines pineapple plantation in Polomolok; Tupi fruit park in Tupi; Kablon Farms pasalubong center in Koronadal City; Surallah tri-people monument in Surallah; and the T’boli School of Living Traditions, the Lang Dulay T’nalak weaving center, House of Gongs and the Tboli Museum in Lake Sebu.

Dillera said tourists may take a one-day eco-industrial tour in Sultan Kudarat province that covers visits to the Sultan Kudarat provincial capitol in Isulan town, Baras bird sanctuary in Tacurong City and other nearby attractions.

She said an optional two-day tour is available for those who would want to visit the province’s coffee farms and the Lagbasan Cave in Senator Ninoy Aquino town.

Dillera said visitors may take a day tour to discover the cultural charms of Cotabato City and nearby areas, specifically the People’s Palace (government center), the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral, the Barter Trade Center, the Al Jamelah weaving center and the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque.

The official said the longest of the seven packages covers three-day tours to Mt. Apo and nearby destinations in North Cotabato, especially the New Israel Eco Park in Makilala town; Lake Agco in Kidapawan City; and the Asik-Asik Falls in Alamada.

Dillera said these tour packages, which are offered in promotional prices, include airport transfer services, accommodation, tour guides, entrance and other related fees.

“These packages assure more memorable experiences for visitors who would come to Region 12,” she said.

She said they’re banking on these packages to help bring in more domestic and foreign tourists to the region and eventually meet its target of drawing around 1.9 million tourist arrivals for this year.
