DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 12 June) – Authorities here have yet to check video clips from CCTV to identify the owner of a grenade and 18 rounds of 9mm ammunition discovered by a garbage collector inside a trash bin at La Verna Hills Subdivision, Davao City on Monday morning.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 spokesperson Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz said on Tuesday that the police are still looking for evidence that will lead them to the suspect.
Garbage collector Robert Quiapo discovered the suspicious package 10:30 a.m. at a trash bin placed at the corner of San Mateo and San Pablo Streets.
Driz said Quiapo immediately called the attention of the police auxiliary detailed in the area and turned over the items, which are now under the custody of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team of the Davao City Police Office for proper disposition.
Driz said the motive for placing the items in a trash bin remains unclear and that they could not speculate on the intention of the owner.
“It could be that he is afraid that authorities might discover that he in possession of these items or maybe somebody from his family threw it because they don’t want to possess it, or intentionally, he wanted to dispose it by means of throwing it in the rubbish box,” she said.
Driz appealed to the public who are still in possession of similar items to properly turn them over to the nearest police station or any EOD teams. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)
