DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 3 July) – A magnitude 5.6 earthquake with epicenter somewhere in Glan, Sarangani shook the province and neighboring areas 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The quake was felt as far as Davao City (Intensity IV) and even Kidapawan City (Intensity II), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
Phivolcs, however, said it was not expecting damage from the quake of tectonic origin with a depth of focus at 95 kilometers but warned that aftershocks could occur.
Rene Punzalan, Sarangani provincial disaster and risk reduction and management officer, was quoted by provincial information officer Serafin Ramos Jr. as saying that they have not monitored damage from the quake as of press time.
Phivolcs’s first “earthquake information” dispatch said the epicenter was somewhere in Malungon, Sarangani’s northernmost municipality. It later corrected the epicenter to be in Glan in the province’s southern tip. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)
