COTABATO CITY (MindaNews/6 July) — Police investigators in the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) are eyeing on a long-standing family feud, or “rido,” as the motive of the ambush of Pualas, Lanao del Sur Vice Mayor Dianaton Tanog that resulted to one fatality and the wounding four others.
Senior Insp. Anne Alvarado, of the Police Regional Information Office of ARMM, relayed to MindaNews that the ambush happened while the victims were on board a white Isuzu Fuego pickup around 4 p.m. on Sunday negotiating the Narciso Ramos Highway, in Barangay Damdamun in Madalum town, Lanao del Sur.
The victims were on their way to Pualas after attending an oath-taking ceremony in Marawi City when the armed men opened fire.
They were immediately rushed to Amai Pakpak Medical Center in Marawi City but 30-year-old Abolkair Benasing failed to reach the hospital alive.
Tanog sustained only minor injuries while his wife Farina was hit slightly on the head. Relatives Ronto Tanog and Normida Benasing were also wounded in the attack.
The long-standing feud between the Benasing and Oday families that started in 2002 was believed to be the reason of the bloody attack. (Ferdinandh B. Cabrera / MindaNews)
