DTI 12 adopts ISO 9001:2000

Dorecita Delima, DTI Region 12 assistant director, said in a statement that the agency has approved the implementation starting this year of the Quality Manual for their quality management system.

She said DTI Region 12 Director Ibrahim Guiamadel signed the approval of the Quality Manual during the recent first DTI-12 Regional Executive Committee meeting.

The approval of the manual was endorsed by DTI provincial directors Flora Gabunales of South Cotabato, Anthony Bravo of North Cotabato, Nenita Barroso of Sarangani, Carlito Nuñez of Sultan Kudarat and acting DTI city directors Danilo Buenbrazo of Cotabato City and Arnel V. Sayco of General Santos City.

"We are proud to say that DTI 12's daily operations are now ably guided by the ISO quality management system," said Delima, who is also DTI 12's quality management representative.

ISO 9001:2000 measures an organization in terms of quality management, evaluating a broad spectrum of practices including procedure, documentation, policy, communications, personnel, and infrastructure.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2000 for quality management system is an improvement of the 1994 version, which has been adopted by more than half a million users in all sectors worldwide.

The 1994 edition focuses on documentation while the latter deals on process and client or customer.

Delima said the agency started aligning their quality management system to ISO 9001:2000 last year. She said the upgrading of their management systems and standards is part of their efforts to uphold DTI's image as an "agency of choice."

She said the pursuit of certifying their systems to the ISO standards is supported by the DTI central office, which approved their Quality Policy in mid-2006.

"Right now, we are implementing our internal quality audits and management reviews.  Our quality documents are now being completed for the coming assessment by a Third Party certifying body," Delima said.

The DTI is at the forefront of the national government's efforts to enhance and protect the needs of both business and consumers.

Its services are aimed at creating a business-friendly environment that promotes and facilitates the growth of investments, trade and industry in the country.

At the same time, by promoting competition and enforcing fair trade laws, DTI protects the welfare of consumers and enables them to get value for their money.

DTI's major programs are focused on consumer protection, consumer education, price monitoring, investment marketing, trade promotion, export facilitation, trade dispute resolution, legislative advocacy and monitoring and Small and Medium Enterprise development. (Allen V. Estabillo/MindaNews)
