Halal, catfish featured in GenSan’s 8th business month celebration

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews/25 June) – Halal foods and the pangasius catfish variety are among the local products being promoted in Yaman GenSan or Yabong Maliit na Negosyo sa General Santos, the annual business month celebration which opened Wednesday.

Yaman Gensan will run until July 22 with product exhibits, entrepreneur’s training, franchise expo, jobs fair, and livelihood trainings, among others.

Now on its eight year, the month-long business event is themed “Trabaho, Negosyo, Asenso” (Job, Business, Success).

Yaman GenSan was initially meant to drumbeat the city’s economy during the lean months that follow the Kalilangan Festival in February until the Tuna festival in September, said outgoing Mayor Pedro B. Acharon Jr.

Now it has become a main fixture in the city’s year-round activities, he added.

It was institutionalized through City Council Resolution 169 passed in 2003.

Yaman GenSan is envisioned to facilitate access to technology and provide basic information and assistance to current and prospective entrepreneurs, initiate business development and promotion activities, link financing resources and link local SME’s with counterpart industry associations.

The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Council, the Department of Trade and Industry and the city government have been collaborating in holding the annual business month celebration. (MindaNews)
