DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/11 April)—Three companies are eyeing to outsource services from the existing small and medium enterprises in the city after noting the good talent pool of the firms based in the area.
In a press forum Monday at the SM City Davao, Teolulo T. Pasawa, city director of the Department of Trade and Industry identified the three companies as Cartoon Network, Alliance Software Inc. and Summit Technologies Inc.
“This is a good development. The possible outsourcing of services will give additional businesses to the existing firms,” he said. The three companies have been holding discussions with ICT-Davao and software groups on the possible tie-up with the firms since visiting the city yesterday.
He said Cartoon Network, an American cable television network under Turner Broadcasting System Inc., further discussed with the Davao United Association of Animators and Designers on what firms should be tapped should the company decide to outsource services from the city.
The plan of the animation company came after it saw the possibility of investing in Filipino animators and anime studios to produce local content for export within this year.
“Rather than outsource jobs of animators or redistribute content from the US, Cartoon Network is looking forward to produce locally relevant animation for the South East Asian market,” Jennifer Doig, regional director for public relations of Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, said earlier in a national paper.
The content that will be produced in the country will be exported to the US and Europe. Meanwhile, four American-based business process outsourcing companies showed interest in venturing in the city after a visit here in January. Each of the company will have about 200 seats. (MindaNews)
