BPM industry earns over P400B in 2015

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/16 July) – Companies in the Business Process Management (BPM) industry generated a total revenue of P461.4 billion in 2015, according to the final results of the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) 2015 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry released on Monday.

The PSA said firms in customer relationship management industry earned P264.4 billion or 57.3% of the sector’s total income while those in computer programming raked in P62.7 billion (13.6%) and sales and marketing (including telemarketing) netted P51.3 billion (11.1%).

The PSA identified the five countries where most of the income came from – US (P126.5 billion), Netherlands (P17.2 billion), Australia (P11.9 billion), UK (P9.9 billion), and Canada (P7.4 billion). Income generated from these transactions comprised 44.5% of the sector’s income.

A total of 1,583 or 88.88% of the 1,781 samples drawn for all BPM establishments responded to the PSA survey.

The agency also reported that the total expense incurred by BPM-related companies amounted to P412.5 billion. Of this amount, customer relationship management activities spent the highest with PHP235.7 billion, followed only by computer programming (P58.2 billion) and sales and marketing (P43.5 billion).

The industry employed 573,221 workers in 2015. Firms engaged in customer relationship management activities employed 390,799 workers or 68.2% of the sector’s total workforce; sales and marketing (including telemarketing) activities followed with 72,546 workers (12.7%); and computer programming activities placed third with 39,503 workers (6.9%), the PSA said.

In terms of average annual compensation per worker, finance and accounting activities reported the highest with P922,000 per employee; payroll maintenance and other transaction processing activities PHP779.1; computer programming P647,900; software publishing P636,900; and administrative support services P605,000.
