DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/ 30 January) – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte told business operators to prohibit themselves from short-cutting the regulatory processes set by local and national government agencies.

“Remind your members not to short-cut the regulatory processes of the government — both local and national government agencies,” Duterte told business leaders during the 51st Annual Installation of Officers and Board of Trustees of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) at the Marco Polo Hotel Davao on Tuesday evening.

Duterte said the revenues collected from the business sector can help the city government implement more programs and projects to support not only the business community but also other sectors.

The mayor added the city government looks forward to more collaboration with the DCCCII to expand the growth of local industries and empower the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to sustain the socioeconomic development of the city.

DCCCII president Arturo Milan, who was reelected president for another one-year term, said they will continue to promote responsible business practices, including preservation of natural resources and monitoring the growth of the organization by ensuring it’s “healthy from within.”

“As the maxim goes, everything starts at home, and I believe that at the Chamber, we are a family that needs to help for the betterment of our economic landscape,” he said.

Milan said he plans to expand the advocacies and thrusts that were undertaken last year such as the business community advocacy, chamber member service, Davao community service, and organizational development

He said they will continue to push for improvements in basic infrastructure to attract more investments and improve tourism as part of its business community advocacy, including the fast-tracking of the modernization of the terminals at the Davao City International Airport and Sasa Port, monitor construction of the Davao by-pass road and coastal roads and support the transition to a better means of public transportation.

He added DCCCII will deliver more assistance to help the MSMEs grow and continue advocating for programs and projects that Dabawenyos in general can benefit.

“Together with the officers, we will conduct regular consultations on issues concerning their industries. In addition, we plan to hold more business to business matching sessions for those who are looking for partners here and abroad,” he said. (Antonio L. Colina IV/MindaNews)
