After revival of Davao-Manado direct flights, Zambo-Kota Kinabalu soon

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/12 October) – After the revival of direct flights between Davao City and Manado in Indonesia on September 27, hopes are high that the direct flight between Zamboanga City and Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia will also be revived.

“Linking borders, bridging people. After Davao-Manado direct flight revival last month, there’s finally hope too for Zamboanga-Kota Kinabalu direct air services to be made available soon as another BIMP-EAGA route,” Romeo Montenegro, Romeo Montenegro, Deputy Executive Director of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) announced on his FB page on Friday, from Kota Kinabalu.

Montenegro was in Kota Kinabalu for the Senior Officials’ Meeting in preparation for next month’s Ministers’ Meeting of the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

12mapAsked for details, Montenegro told MindaNews the revival of the air route is now being processed by the airline company. Other details will be announced hopefully during the Ministers’ Meeting, he said.

It has been more than a decade since an airline company served the Zamboanga-Kota Kinabalu route.

The Davao-Manado route is being served twice weekly – Mondays and Fridays – by Indonesia’s flag carrier, Garuda.

BIMP-EAGA comprises Brunei Darussalam, East Indonesia, East Malaysia and Mindanao and Palawan in the Philippines. (Carolyn O. Arguillas / MindaNews)
