From 2003 to 2004, revenue collection exceeded target in Southeastern Mindanao. The region comprises the three Davao provinces – Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental — and Compostela Valley and the cities of Davao, Digos, Panabo, Tagum and Mati.
Atty. Marcelina Omilia-Yap, BIR regional director said their tax collection target for 2007 was P7.1 billion but they were able to collect only P6.6 billion.
Yap said they failed to meet their target because it was set too high.
"Too much ang goal," Yap told reporters.
But even if the target was missed, the bureau was still able to register a 13% growth rate from its 2006 collection.
For this year the target set by the bureau is P7.8 billion for Southeastern Mindanao and P5.5 billion for Davao City alone.
Yap said they are optimistic they could achieve this year’s target since the first quarter’s collection has already surpassed last year’s, at least P1.5 billion, from P1.4 billion.
The initial P1.5 billion does not include collection in the latter part of this month. (MindaNews)
