Kidapawan mayor vows non-partisanship in barangay, youth polls

“This is to give an impartial treatment to all candidates since they have their own programs in serving their constituents,” he said, adding that not endorsing any candidate would also level the playing field among candidates.

Barangay elections are supposed to be non-partisan although past experiences had shown that mayors and governors were backing candidates.

The week-long registration of new voters starts Monday, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.

Gantuangco has ordered members of the Association of Barangay Chairpersons (ABC) to coordinate with the local Comelec officials to ensure their constituents are informed abou the registration.

The registration will be done by batches based on a schedule set by the Comelec for every village to ensure an orderly flow, city election officer Diosdado Javier said. (Malu Cadelina-Manar/MindaNews)
