Mindanao cities are samples in video on better business permit schemes

How they did it will be answered in a video documentary titled, “Reinventing Business Permitting Means Better Business Climate.”

The documentary will be launched on October 6 at 6 p.m. at the Renaissance Ballroom, New World Renaissance Hotel, Makati City.

A press statement from The Asia Foundation said the launching “aims to share the lessons of Mindanao cities in enhancing their business permits and licensing processes with the rest of the country.”

IT was produced by the TAF’s Transparent Accountable Governance (TAG) Project in partnership with the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Representatives from international development agencies, the national government and the mayors of 16 TAG cities in Mindanao are expected to attend the launch.

Under the 1991 Local Government Code, cities are empowered issue business permits and collect fees and taxes.  With assistance from TAF, technical working groups were tasked to look for ways to improve their systems. Among the innovations were  “simplification of requirements for renewal; translation of forms into local languages; re-arrangement of the workflow among tables in the one-stop-shop venue; changes in the sequence of steps; and convincing national government agencies to be available in the one-stop-shop venue.” (MindaNews)
