The governor was alarmed following intelligence reports that this city and the towns of Midsayap and Kabacan have become sources of illegal drugs. “I am very sad upon hearing the report. I immediately ordered the PNP (Philippine National Police) in the province to intensify their monitoring and arrest and put behind bars any person involved in drug trafficking in our province,” he stressed during an interview over DXND Radio for Peace.
The governor also challenged his constituents to cooperate and report to him any suspicious individuals believed to be in involved in drug trade.
“I will not allow anybody to destroy my people using illegal drugs. To those involved in the drug trade in my province, I appeal to you to stop because we will run after you. Once your activities are proven, we will put you behind bars,” Piñol warned.
The governor is known for his no-nonsense stand against drugs even when he was still the town mayor of Mlang. He has joined several marijuana uprooting operations by the PNP and the military in the hinterlands of the province early in his administration as governor.
He also spearheaded the filing of complaints against elements of the PDEA based in North Cotabato for their questionable handling of a drug case in the town of Pikit three years ago. (Williamor A. Magbanua / MindaNews)
