Insp. Benjamin Mauricio, chief of the Intelligence Division of the Kidapawan City police, said the suspects, Zaira Joy Perez, 26, of Davao City and Muhammad Andal Andi, 29, ocf the Bangsamoro Village here, were arrested even if they employed ‘guerrilla-type’ operations.
He said “guerrilla-type” means the drug couriers do not stay in one place but transfer from one town or city to the other, to avoid arrest.
Perez and her partner Andi decided to leave Davao del Sur sometime last October this year when they became subjects of a police manhunt in the area. They checked in at the Vesta Hotel where they continued doing their operations.
They were about to receive supply from a still unidentified supplier when arrested by Mauricio and his men at around 6:45 p.m., last Monday inside the hotel.
Chief Insp. Leo Ajero, city police chief, said he immediately ordered a massive surveillance against the suspects after he received reports of their operations in the area.
“They could be connected to a bigger group but they still won’t confess,” stressed Ajero.
He said those involved in drug trafficking always maintain a ‘code of silence’ on the identities of other members operating in the province and in the region.
Charges of violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act have been filed against them, he said.
