Mayor Luzviminda Tan ordered the local police to inspect all KTV bars and arrest “guest relations officers” (GROs) working without health permits.
Tan was alarmed upon receiving reports and complaints from her constituents that many of these girls are infected with gonorrhea.
“One of my constituents personally appeared to my office and confessed that she was infected with gonorrhea from her husband who admitted having sex with one of the GROs in Kabacan,” Tan said.
Personnel of the municipal health office immediately examined the apprehended GROs while being held inside the Kabacan municipal gymnasium.
Senior Insp. Abelio Jungaya, Kabacan chief of police, told dxND Radio for Peace that five of the GROs tested positive of gonorrhea but refused to divulge names to protect their identities.
He said the infected GROs have been placed under the custody of the social welfare office while undergoing treatment.
Tan has directed all KTV bars in her town to make sure that their workers have secured health permits, also known as “pink cards,” before they would be allowed to work again.
The mayor warned the owners of various KTV bars in Kabacan not to violate the laws to avoid facing sanctions and pay the prescribed penalties for their violations.
