“If you will read the headlines, you can say that 9 out of 10 news about Mindanao are negative,” he said.
“I believe Mindanao is a safe place except for a few incidents that the national media magnify,” Dominguez said.
The past few weeks, a few areas in Mindanao were rocked with bombing incidents. These were Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat, Cotabato City, and Makilala in North Cotabato.
He urged the media to also look at the positive developments happening in the island, like the recently launched Internet connection of Upi, a formerly war-torn town in Maguindanao, as well as the presence of Gawad Kalinga housing projects in many parts of the island.
He appealed to “Imperial Manila” and the national media to help reverse the negative image of Mindanao in news stories.
Speaking about his province of Sarangani, Dominguez said, “So far we have peace and stability. It’s very peaceful here, just like in most cities and municipalities in Mindanao.”
The 29-year-old governor said that to preserve the peace in the island, he advocates education, respect of cultural diversity, and peace and development activities.
