Supt. Joel Limson, Tacurong City police chief, said the bomb exploded at the baggage counter of Kimsan Plaza. This is the second blast in the city this year. On October 10, four persons were injured when an improvised bomb went off at the city’s public market.
Injured were Melba Lorenzo, 41, her daughter Analyn, 21, and grandson John Rey, 6, all residents of Tacurong City.
Sultan Kudarat Governor Pax Mangudadatu said extortion may have been the motive behind the latest blast.
Based on initial investigations by the police, KimSan Plaza has been receiving extortion letters from a still unidentified group, the latest of which was on December 12 when the group demanded P50,000.
“They bombed the store in order to pressure the store to pay them the P50T they need,” said Mangudadatu in an interview over DXND.
