When police led by Insp. Rosanna Sidocon of Tacurong City were dispatched in the area where 34-year-old businessmen Dai Zhen Jia and electronics technician Danny Te were waylaid, they could not find any traces of the suspects at all.
Jia was driving his white Isuzu pick-up around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday when two motorcycle-riding men followed them until they reached their place along Everlasting Street in Tacurong City.
When Jia was about to take a curve, one of the motorcycle-riding men sprayed bullets into the vehicle, hitting the Filipino-Chinese businessman on his chest and other parts of the body. Te was also badly hit, reports said.
But Jia continued to drive his vehicle towards home to elude the attackers’ bullets. When he was already near his home, the suspects immediately fled to unknown direction.
Police theorized that extortion or business rivalry could be behind the ambush.
Jia is a proprietor of a shop located near Tacurong Fitmart, one of the biggest department stores in the city.
Jia and Te were rushed to the Sultan Kudarat Doctors Hospital for medical treatment.
Police recovered from the crime scene five empty bullets of caliber .45 pistol.
