In a meeting with some 300 barefoot livestock technicians in the province last week, Governor Emmanuel Piñol introduced the coconut-oil palm-and rubber-base small ruminants program designed for farmers engaged in the production of high value crops.
Pinol said the provincial government will import high breed goats and cattle abroad to be distributed to the qualified beneficiaries.
Barefoot livestock technicians will be assigned in various areas of North Cotabato to assist farmers in taking care of the animals.
To identify pilot areas, barefoot technicians were tasked to conduct an inventory of number of goats and cattle in every municipality.
Vice Governor Jesus Sacdalan urged the barefoot technicians to support the provincial government on this endeavor. “We shall not allow this program to follow the failing ways of other similar programs implemented by other agencies in the past. We will make North Cotabato the first province to make livestock the main industry along with our four high value crops,” he said.
By noon of June 30, Sacdalan will take his oath of office as governor while Pinol will take oath as vice governor.
