Chief Insp. Querubin Manalang Jr., information officer of the Philippine National Police regional office, told MindaNews Thursday that they apprehended a total of 125 persons during the election period from January 14 to June 13, 33 of whom were minors.
He said they filed charges against 92 violators but couldn’t against the remaining 33 because they were minors.
Under the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act or RA 9344, juvenile offenders 15 years and one day to 18 years of age are supposed to be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Manalang said they were able to seize a total of 169 firearms and 30 deadly weapons during the five-month gun ban.
Most of the violators of the gun ban were drivers or jobless persons carrying unlicensed firearms and deadly weapons.
He said they were not able to apprehend any prominent personality, despite the declaration of a total gun ban in Davao del Sur after the killing of Malita mayoralty bet Isidro Sarmiento, Sr and his son Danilo.
Manalang said that after the Comelec declared total gun ban in the province, the number of violators and violent incidents dropped.
But he said checkpoints will stay despite the end of the election gun ban.
Southeastern Mindanao comprises the three Davao provinces and Compostela Valley and the cities of Davao, Digos, Panabao, Samal and Tagum.
