The suspect was identified as Abdul Zabiri alias "Beds," who was arrested in Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat province.
Police intelligence agents led by Supt. Diosdado Bangeles reportedly captured Zabiri.
Insp. Juan Astilla, of the Philippine National Police regional operations center, said that an informant led policemen to Zabiri’s whereabouts in Barangay Pasi.
The suspect reportedly has a pending warrant of arrest for multiple murder and frustrated murder because of his alleged involvement in the public market bombing.
He is now languishing at the city jail to face the charges docketed as criminal case 18368 under the sala of Branch 22 Judge Antonio Lubao, Astilla said.
The Dec. 12, 2004 bombing occurred about 3:50 p.m. at the meat section of the main public market. Three persons died on the spot while the rest perished in the hospitals.
The pre-Christmas season attack prompted authorities to tighten security at crowded places, especially malls as people gird to shop for gifts.
Initial reports that time said the bomb attack could have been triggered by feuding vendors. Authorities, however, did not discount the attack could have been carried by terrorists belonging to the Abu Sayyaf.
Authorities later on arrested five persons in a follow-up operation at Barangay Labangal, this city.
