Arrested was Zaldy Abdul Ibrahim, from whom an improvised explosive device was confiscated. The homemade bomb was placed in a backpack, said Lt. Col. Julieto Ando, spokesperson of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division based in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Shariff Kabungsuan.
Ando said the soldiers learned of the plan of the suspect to bring in an IED to Cotabato City through information relayed by informants. Ando said soldiers recovered from Ibrahim a homemade bomb fashioned from a live 60 MM mortar projectile rigged with a battery-operated blasting mechanism attached to a mobile phone.
The explosive is reportedly identical to those used in recent bombings in areas southwest Mindanao.
Lt. Col. Hermie Aquino of the Army’s 6th Infantry Battalion, led the team that arrested Ibrahim. (MindaNews)
