Fr. Rey Salvador issued his appeal in front of some 300 parishioners attending the novena mass at the Our Lady Mediatrix of All Grace cathedral on Wednesday.
He appealed to them to vote wisely and choose the candidates who would really care for the poor, the oppressed and the neglected.
“Please don’t make a wrong choice. Vote the candidates you think are capable to handle the position and could address the basic needs of our people,” he said.
Fr. Salvador also urged the parishioners of Kidapawan not to accept money from politicians in exchange for their votes in the May 14 elections.
“Our votes are sacred so please don’t exchange it with kilos of rice and meager amount of money,” he said.
He also asked urged everyone to be vigilant in order to ensure Honest, Orderly and Peaceful Election (HOPE).
In M’lang town, the Santa Teresita parish sponsored a candidate’s forum and peace covenant signing among all local politicians vying for various positions last week.
Teresita Napat, chair of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) said the candidate’s forum will serve as venue for the politicians to explain their platforms of government.
The candidates signed a peace covenant to ensure credible, honest and peaceful elections.
The Santo Nino parish in President Roxas will also sponsor a candidate’s forum to be held at the town’s gymnasium on May 8. (Williamor A. Magbanua/MindaNews)
